It's been a rocky start to Colton's cross country season. Due to his lack of conditioning over the summer he suffered knee problems and blew the time trials for a varsity spot for the first race. Thanks to a great sports chiro (Dr. Keith Rau) and another new pair of shoes, Dude fought back and appears to be better than ever.
Tuesday's race was at one of our fave parks (Dellinger) where we've both logged some serious mileage. Dude's only goal was to run fast enough to knock out one of the seven varsity runners and regain a spot he held all last season. He did -- placing 5th overall for JV and 1st overall JV for his team. His time of 19:31 was his slowest time ever (his slowest time last season was 19:21) but it was enough to regain a spot on the varsity team (placed him as 4th on the team).
Say cheese.
Celebrating with Forest (aka Fluffy) He strikes a sexy pose (can you tell who's sitting next to me as I write this?)

He and his sexy lady friend (again, he's right here next to me feeding me lines) celebrate strong races.
Today's race at Taylor Farms Park was held under perfect conditions. The course was flat and fast and the weather was cool with a great breeze. It's ironic that in less than a week Colton could run his slowest and fastest races ever. He finished the first mile at just over 5 minutes...super fast. The rest of the race was just as fast and he finished strong at 17:59 and hit a personal record...his fastest time last season was 18:04.
